Three months after he left the Armani group and following the conclusion of AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan’s 2018-19 campaign, president Livio Proli confirmed his tenure with the Italian side ended. “I wanted to leave Milan in a different situation, but it wasn’t the case” he admitted following LBA Serie A Semifinals Game 3 versus Banco di Sardegna Sassari.

“We could have won more, not only this season. However, the project is healthy, the club is healthy” Proli added and also commented on Simone Pianigiani’s future: “I’m leaving, not Pianigiani. He’s contracted and talked with the owners last week.”

However, it’s early to predict the summer decisions that might bring even more adjustments to the Italian team and result in Pianigiani getting fired. La Gazzetta Dello Sport suggests that the team wants to hire Ettore Messina as head coach and Maurizio Gherardini or Claudio Coldebella as GM ahead of the next season.

Sharing his take on the 2018-19 season, the 50-year-old Italian head coach pointed out: “Unfortunately, we never managed to line up the team we wanted. We fought until the last round of EuroLeague and maybe it took a toll on us.”.

Pianigiani later explained: “I’m not happy with the outcome, because the goal was to win the second consecutive championship. We proved we were able to achieve our goal finishing first in the Regular Season. I can’t be satisfied despite the step forward made in Europe.”
