By speaking to Italian newspapers “Gazzetta Dello Sport” and “Il resto del carlino” both Danilo Gallinari and Marco Bellineli confirmed that they will be available for their national team for the upcoming pre-Olympic tournament.
Three tournaments will be organized and the winner of each tournament will get one of the last three tickets to the Olympics in which only 12 teams compete. As Gallinari said to “Gazzetta”: “It’s a scandal that only 12 teams have the right to play in this tournament”. For many years FIBA was and still trying to convince the international Olympic committee to expand the basketball tournament, which is one of the main attractions of the Games, with no results so far.
