While the two powerhouses turned their games against their opponents into… warm up procedures for their upcoming crucial matches in Euroleague, there was no shortage in thrilling moments during this Week in the Greek Basket League.

Olympiacos (20-1) and Panathinaikos (20-1) faced two teams that are currently in among the three lowest spot in the standings. Being in no mood for jokes, they obliterated Kavala (4-17) and Lavrio (6-15), respectively, being strong on both ends of court.

Arguably one of the most important games this week, took place in Thessaloniki and “Nick Galis Hall” where we saw a decisive match for the third place in the standings between Aris (16-5) and AEK (16-5). Although the hosts had fallen behind with 10 points at the ending of the third quarter, they took the victory in the very last seconds of the game.

While AEK had to cope without its leader, Loukas Mavrokefalidis (who was fouled out quite early) for about 30 minutes of the match, the team of coach Zdovc was in control until the last period. It was then that consecutive three-point shots by Aris’ players, put them back in the game and allowed them to fight for the comeback and then grab a win that might be proven to be key for a precious advantage in the playoffs.

Apollon Patras (9-12) , Rethymno (9-12) and Kolossos (9-12) also took important wins that keep them in the top 8 spots of the standings.
