The Greek General Ministry of Sports has announced that “OAKA” arena will be renamed to “Nikos Galis” in honor for the best Greek and one of the top European players of all times.

The arena, that currently serves as home court of Panathinaikos and AEK was to be named “Nikos Galis” in 1995 when it was inaugurated but that decision was postponed for… 21 years.

Better late than never…

“This is an honor for me but also for the teammates I had back in the day. I believe that we have a lot to offer to the people, youth and Greek society” said Nikos Galis after his meeting with minister of Sports, Stavros Kontonis when he learned about the decision.
