A press release of Virtus Bologna presented coach Sasa Djordjevic saying that “all French teams have announced that they will not play in the Basketball Champions League the upcoming season, a strong choice by a strong federation, which put quality above quantity in European competitions.”

However, not only French teams are expected to play as usual in the Basketball Champions League next season, but also the president of the French League, Alain Beral, clarified the whole situation. Beral talked to “L’Equpe” and said for Djordjevic: “He probably knows more than I do. I think that he always loves to provoke. The French clubs want to play in the BCL except for Monaco, which has aligned for strategic reasons with the EuroCup. No other club has denied playing to the BCL”.

Beral, who is also a member of the BCL board, announced that Dijon, due to their results in the BCL, has already qualified for next season.

Dijon will play against Nizhny Novgorod having the chance to be of the eight teams which will compete in September in the Final Eight tournament that will crown the BCL champion after the suspension of the 2019-20 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
