Head coach Oren Amiel along with assistant Aleksander Sekulic and athletic coach Ricardas Reimaris will extend their runs with ERA Nymburk, the Czech Republic outlet announced. They all re-signed for the 2020-21 season despite the club offering them reduced conditions compared to last season due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the press release notes.

“We are glad that we agreed with the entire coaching staff on further cooperation despite the reduced budget,” mentioned the executive director of the club, Ondřej Simecek. “They accepted that the budget per player is also lower. It will be more challenging for coaches due to the fact that the goals remain the same. So to win the Czech title and the cup and also to fight for the best possible position in the Champions League.”

Amiel, 49, joined Nymburk in 2010 and remained with the team since except for a short break. He led his side to numerous domestic titles and record-setting winning streaks and was also among the Basketball Champions League Coach of the Year candidates until the suspension of the 2019-20 season.

“After a tremendous season that unfortunately ended earlier than expected due to COVID-19, and according to the new situation of basketball in general and the club particularly, I felt the responsibility to stay and try to finish what we have started,” he said, “It’s a difficult time to everybody but also a challenging one. I had the privilege to coach the team in front of our fantastic fans, sponsors, and anyone who supported us along the way. Together with my special staff, Sasa Sekulic and Richi Reimaris, I can promise nothing but to fight for you every time we will step on the court. I believe that even the time is not ideal, our management and president Mr. Podpera will find the way and the sources so we can have a competitive and attractive team in order to fulfill our ambitions.”

Sekulic, 42, will remain Amiel’s right hand, a position he holds since 2017. Reimaris, 34, has been with Nymburk since 2013.
