With the COVID cases steadily rising again all over Europe, the Basketball Champions League is ready to adapt

The 2020-21 regular season of the Basketball Champions League is expected to change the format in order to accommodate the clubs and the competition during the coronavirus pandemic.

The final decision is pending, however, the clubs have been already informed about the intention of the competition and are expected to agree in a shorter and more flexible regular season format with fewer games.

There’s not any intention of creating “bubbles” all over Europe, at least on the regular season. Teams will continue to travel between different countries and that’s why fewer games mean less risk and more chances to have a normal season with all results being decided on the court.

As BeBasket reported first, the scenario of having a six-game regular season with the clubs divided into eight groups of four teams is more than possible.

The final decision and the official announcement are expected in the next few days. Of course, this change of format is just a temporary measure due to the COVID-related difficulties around traveling and hosting a sport event, even without fans on the stands.
