SIG Strasbourg has signed rookie Matt Mitchell, the team announced Monday.

Mitchell, 22, is coming off four NCAA years at San Diego State. He averaged 15.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.4 steals per game last season. He played in 124 contests through those four years.

“Matt is a young player with great potential, with many qualities and very explosive,” said head coach Lassi Tuovi describing his new player, “He is a modern basketball player with a long reach similar to Bonzie (Colson) and Ish (Wainright) from last season. He understands the game very well. He is a very humble youngster. For sure, he is not completely ready and will need to get used to European basketball, but his potential is enormous.”

The young forward, named Mountain West Player of the Year in his senior NCAA season, has been reported to join the San Antonio Spurs Summer League squad.

French forward Gaylor Curier was the first summer addition for Strasbourg. The French team is preparing for the next edition of the Basketball Champions League and Group F of the Regular Season against Filou Oostende, Tofas, and one more team jumping out of the qualifiers.
