After winning last year’s Basketball Champions League edition, Lenovo Tenerife started this Regular Season in the perfect way, dominating what looked like a pretty balanced matchup on paper by beating Rytas Vilnius 89-74.

As expected, both Marcelinho Huertas and Giorgi Shermadini had great nights. The Brazilian ended with 19 points and 7 assists, shooting 4/6 from three-point, and tied Dusan Djordjevic as the BCL all-time leader in assists with 358, while the Georgian had 18 points and 6 assists.

Sasu Salin, one of the best sharpshooters in the competition, closed with 18 points and a terrific 6/8 from the arc.

Martynas Echodas, who previously played a total of four games with Rytas Vilnius in the BCL, averaging 18.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in the competition, ended with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Marcus Foster tried to help with 21 points, but it wasn’t enough.

Txus Vidorreta’s team, which is one of the five teams to have taken part in all seven editions of the BCL (including 2022-23), alongside AEK, ERA Nymburk, Filou Oostende, and SIG Strasbourg, has now reached Peristeri on top of Group H, after Vassilis Spanoulis’ side beat Bnei Herzliya 86-70. They’re two wins away from reaching AS Monaco’s 14-game winning streak, the longest in Basketball Champions League history.
