In a must-win situation, Tofas makes short work of Falco Vulcano Szombathely

Losing two games in Group A of the 2022-23 Basketball Champions League Regular Season, Tofas Bursa was not ready for a 0-3 start and instead got on the board. It was done emphatically with a 90-63 victory opposite Falco Vulcano Szombathely in Tofas Nilufer Spor Salonu Wednesday evening.

Senegalese center Boubacar Toure was the main force. Making things happen in the paint, he dropped 23 points from 8/8 shots from the field and pulled down eight rebounds as well. His scoring effort matched his career-high and boosted the team effort of 44 points in the paint against Szombathely.

Debuting in the Champions League, experienced guard Arturas Milaknis chipped in 13 more points connecting 4/8 from deep. Rob Gray had 14 points, including eight in the first quarter as his side placed in a commanding position, early in Gameday 3.

With a comfortable lead attained, Dimitris Priftis spread playing time. His side, snapping a five-game losing streak in the BCL, prevailed in the season home opener and improved to 1-2 in the four-team group. Domestically, the Bursa outfit was coming off a win over Pinar Karsiyaka and jumped to 3-1 in Turkey’s BSL.

Raymond Cowels III scored 20 points and Zoltan Perl had 14 points but the Hungary champions were outmatched. The visitors, coached by Milos Konakov, are now 1-2 in the group. Also, the losing streak on the road was extended to five games of FIBA’s top European club continental competition. Combined with domestic action and improving to 4-1 in Hungary’s NB I/A, they were on the winning end of the last four outings.
