Unicaja plans to keep Ibon Navarro in charge until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Navarro, 46, penned a three-year contract extension, the team announced Monday.

Per the press release: “The paths of Unicaja and Ibon Navarro will continue together for 3 more seasons. This has been agreed by the President Antonio J. López Nieto, with the full support of the Club’s Board of Directors, and the coach from Vitoria. This agreement also goes hand in hand with the renewal of Juanma Rodríguez in the Sports Management for the same period, something that strengthens a Malaga project that has successfully started this season with the achievement of the Copa del Rey and the good track record both in Liga Endesa as in the Basketball Champions League.”

Since joining the Malaga outfit at the bottom end of the 2021-22 season, Navarro clinched berths in the Playoffs of both the previous and current editions of the Basketball Champions League. Last April, his side was swept by BAXI Manresa. Another best-of-three series between ACB participants and specifically UCAM Murcia is the potential step to the season-ending tournament of FIBA’s top-tier European club continental competition, the Final Four. Needless to say, eliminating both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid en route to capturing the second Copa del Rey in team history last February in Badalona provided a huge boost to the brilliant campaign. As for the domestic league, Unicaja currently ranks fifth with a 15-9 record in Liga Endesa.
