AEK has expressed its intention to remain in the Basketball Champions League

Just six days before the deadline, AEK submitted its application for the 2023-24 BCL season, reaffirming its commitment to the competition it previously won in 2018.

Despite initially receiving a penalty for playing behind closed doors for all home games due to incidents in a previous match against Hapoel Jerusalem, AEK is determined to compete in the BCL. The club has appealed the penalty to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and is now awaiting a decision.

Still, Greece has secured three direct spots in the BCL group stage, with Peristeri, PAOK, and Promitheas finishing higher in the Basket League standings than AEK.

It is still uncertain whether AEK will have to go through the qualifying process or if Greece will have four representatives in the group stage for the first time.

Peristeri and PAOK have an advantage based on their positions in the Basket League rankings, while Promitheas’s decision to switch competitions strengthens their case.

In the meantime, Aris has applied for participation in the EuroCup and is eagerly awaiting a response from the EuroLeague council. The team is hopeful of receiving a positive outcome.
