AEK brings back Dragan Sakota with a long term plan

ΑΕΚ BETSSON BC announced that Dragan Sakota is returning to the team to take over as head coach for the 2024-25 season. He will then assume the role of Sports Director and undertake the “Stategic Planning” of the club, as AEK mentions.

Sakota is back for his third stint with AEK after last coaching the team in 2018. That season, he led the Greek side to the Basketball Champions League and Greek Cup titles.

AEK comes from one of the most disappointing campaigns in the club’s recent history. The team started the campaign with high hopes due to a quality roster and the presence of experienced coach Juan Plaza at the helm but finished 7th in the Greek League following the Play-In tournament while getting eliminated in the Round of 16 of the Basketball Champions League.

Plaza was fired halfway through the season and Ilias Zouros was called to take over amid several problems, including players refusing to practice due to unpaid salaries.
