Since debuting in the Basketball Champions League, Derthona had never grabbed a single victory in the Round of 16 before tonight. Last year they didn’t even make it thus far, while this season they were 0-2.
Things changed as the black-and-white team from Italy hosted Promitheas Patras at home in the battle between winless teams in Group I: they got a convincing 97-77 victory in front of their fans.
The backcourt duo, composed of Christian Vital (20 points over 4/8 from three) and Tommy Kuhse (15 points and 5 assists), was brilliant for Walter De Raffaele’s team.
Derthona also received the all-around contribution of Justin Gorham (12 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists).
Jordan Walker scored a team-high 16 points for Promitheas, but he wasn’t enough for the Greeks.
In the other matchup of Group I, AEK took down Wurzburg on the road to grab their third consecutive victory in the Basketball Champions League Round of 16.
