The duo of Giorgi Shermadini and Marcelinho Huertas worked its magic as La Laguna Tenerife made the Basketball Champions League Final Four once more.
Shermadini finished with 23 points (9 out of 10 shots) plus nine rebounds and Huertas posted 16 points and 14 assists to lift Tenerife past Bertram Derthona Basket 77 – 64 on the road and the 2-0 sweep in the quarterfinal series.
Tenerife, a two-time BCL champion, advanced to the Final Four for the fourth straight time and sixth overall for the club. They will face tournament newcomer Galatasaray in the semifinal.
Tomasso Baldasso was the only Derthona player in double figures with 10 points. The Italian side 44 – 37 two minutes into the second half but was unable to counter Tenerife’s counterattack led by Shermadini and Huertas.
Tenerife came back to close the third period up 54 – 59, building momentum for their final strike. With the score 55 – 62, Txus Vidorreta’s player made a 0 – 9 run to establish a double-digit advantage, retaining it for the rest ofthe game.
