Following Tyson Carter’s departure from the team, moving towards a EuroLeague return with Crvena Zvezda, Unicaja had to answer to hand Ibon Navarro a valuable replacement.
As confirmed by both the team’s president, Antonio Lopez Nieto, and by the player’s agent, Misko Raznatovic, Xavier Castaneda is set to replace this season’s BCL Final Four MVP.
The 25-year-old guard spent the 2024-25 season with JL Bourg-en-Bresse, averaging 13.5 points and 3.8 assists per game in the BKT EuroCup. In the LNB, instead, he promised 17.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game, shooting 44.4% from beyond the arc.
Similarly to what Tyson Carter did, before joining Unicaja, he spent one season away following his overseas debut with Lavrio. Unicaja’s former guard also made his European debut with the Greek side.
Since the 2024-25 campaign, moreover, Xavier Castaneda has been representing Bosnia and Herzegovina in national team basketball.
He had 11.0 points and 5.5 assists in two appearances at the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers. If nothing significant changes, he’s set to join forces with Bosnia at the upcoming event in Cyprus.
