A basketball loyal in Marius Coman tragically passed away on Sunday.

Updating an accident on the A2 motorway involving the team bus, CSM Oradea confirmed the passing of the coach of the U14 team on Monday.

Coman was only 23.

In April, his coaching efforts helped Oradea win the national championship. His basketball journey started from an even younger age as a junior player in his hometown of Sighetu Marmației and expanded into a coaching career to help the next generation develop their talents.

“With pain in our hearts we say goodbye to Marius Coman, who was a part of the CSM Oradea technical staff,” was noted on the Facebook post, “Not long ago we were congratulating him for his medals from the U14 team and we were making plans with him for the future of Oradea. Now, sadly, he left us much too soon after yesterday’s horrible accident.”

“The young coach Marius Coman did not fulfill his dreams, among the children, on the court, in the heart of the competition,” reacted the Romanian Basketball Federation, FRB.

More staff members and young players of the under-14 team were hurt in the bus accident, on the way to a basketball event in Costinesti. Two children with serious injuries were taken to a nearby hospital.

Returning for another campaign in the Basketball Champions League, the senior team of Oradea was recently named among the clubs participating in the Qualification Rounds for a spot in the 2025-26 Regular Season.
