Unicaja Málaga is closing in on a major reinforcement with the potential signing of Dominican guard Chris Duarte, a former 13th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, according to Spanish media Malaga Hoy and Diario Sur.
After standout rookie performances with the Indiana Pacers and a stint with the Sacramento Kings, Duarte is now seeking a fresh start, and Unicaja may be the perfect fit.
The 28-year-old recently averaged over 20 points per game with Vaqueros de Bayamón in Puerto Rico and has impressed with both his scoring and defensive ability. His Dominican nationality gives him Cotonou status, meaning he wouldn’t count as a foreign player in Liga Endesa.
Talks between Duarte and the club are reportedly progressing well, with Unicaja presenting an ambitious project to lure the former NBA sharpshooter to Málaga.
