After 16 years, Ricky Rubio is returning to where it all began. Joventut Badalona has officially signed the veteran point guard for the 2025/26 season, with a contract running until June 30, 2026.
Rubio, now 34, made his professional debut with Joventut at just 14 years old in 2005. During his first stint with the club, he helped the team win the FIBA EuroCup (2006), Copa del Rey, and ULEB Cup (both in 2008), marking one of the club’s most successful eras.
After leaving Badalona, Rubio played for FC Barcelona before heading to the NBA, where he spent over a decade with teams including the Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns, and Cleveland Cavaliers. He returned to Europe in 2024 for a short spell with Barcelona after stepping away from basketball to focus on mental health.
Internationally, Rubio has had a decorated career with Spain, winning the 2019 FIBA World Cup (where he was named MVP), two EuroBasket golds (2009, 2011), and Olympic silver in 2008.
Now, Rubio returns to Joventut as a club legend, aiming to enjoy basketball again in the place where his remarkable journey began.
