AEK Athens demonstrated their high ambitions in the new edition of the FIBA Champions League right in the first round.

The Athens team secured victory in the first round of the group stage, defeating VEF Riga away with a score of 69:53.

The most efficient player on the winning team was Dimitrios Katsivelis, who was also a member of the Greek national team at the recently concluded EuroBasket. He finished the game with 13 points and was the only player on his team with double digits. Interestingly, 11 players from AEK scored in this match.

For VEF Riga, only Zahir Porter played well, finishing with 16 points and five rebounds.

Interestingly, Riga never led in the first round of the match. The Athenians convincingly won the first quarter (26:12), after which it was not difficult for them to celebrate in Latvia.

In the same group are the Hungarian Szolnoki Olaj and the Slovak Levice, and their first-round duel will be played in Hungary on Wednesday at 18:00.
