Promitheas Vikos Cola officially parted ways with 54-year-old head coach Giorgos Limniatis upon a mutual agreement on Monday. Assistant Thanos Konstantakopoulos departed as well.

In a brief break with an international window dedicated to the FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers, the Patras outfit opted for a new approach to the later stages of the 2025-26 schedule with a new head coach, with 53-year-old Curro Segura officially taking over play-calling duties on Tuesday. The new head coach signed a contract for the rest of the season. The challenge carries a 2-3 record in Group A of the Basketball Champions League Season X, powered by Ameresco SUNEL, and a 3-5 W-L tally in Greece’s Stoiximan GBL Regular Season.

Previous Greek jobs for Segura went from his introduction with Ionikos in 2021 to spells at AEK and Kolossos H Hotels Collection. The Granada native has also worked in Egypt, Venezuela, Uruguay, and China, besides numerous stints across teams of his home country. At the international level, he served as the selector of the senior national team of Kuwait in 2014, before bouncing back with Venezuela in November. The next assignment is his first in the top-tier club continental competition of FIBA Europe.

With Promitheas, Limniatis returned to the BCL, on the heels of his 2024-25 spell with Peristeri Domino’s. Last season’s efforts resulted in ranking third in Group H of the Regular Season, with two wins in six games. Moving to the Play-Ins, the campaign was ended by Bertram Derthona Tortona.

The Greek tactician is a former player with stints across several Greek clubs, Sporting, Doukas, Ionikos N.F., Panellinios, PAOK, Dafni, Panionios, Papagou, and Olympiacos. Expanding to a coaching career, he worked as an assistant in the junior national teams of Greece, Nea Kifissia, Kymi, PAOK, and AEK, besides also serving the senior national team of Georgia in a similar position, under Ilias Zouros, and served as the head coach of Lavrio and Maroussi, before replacing Vassilis Spanoulis at Peristeri.

Moves for Legia and Oostende

Also with a 2-3 record in Group A of the BCL, Legia Warszawa extended the contract of 28-year-old Carl Ponsar for three more months on Friday. In his first five Champions League showings, the French winger tallied 5.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest.

Down to 0-4 in Group G, Filou Oostende completed the signing of 23-year-old Alex Merkviladze on Friday. Out of Loyola Marymount and the NCAA, the Georgian winger started the season with Aris Betsson in the BKT EuroCup.
