Heidelberg triumphed over Legia in Warsaw in a crucial sixth-round match of Group A in the FIBA Basketball Champions League, winning 88-83 after two overtimes.
Michael Weathers scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Damariae Horn added 13 points, and Osun Osunniyi contributed 11 points along with ten rebounds.
On the other side, Jayvon Graves led the defeated team with 19 points, Carl Ponsar added 12, and Ben Shungu scored 11 points.
Legia played a perfect first half, and after 20 minutes, the hosts were up by 21 points (48-27), appearing set for an easy victory.
Heidelberg came back into the match with an impressive third quarter (8-27), leading to a tense finish. The hosts were up by five points with 16 seconds to go, but Heidelberg forced overtime with Osun Osunniyi’s points two seconds before the end.
Drama continued in the first overtime when Graves missed a potential game-winning shot. The match went into a second overtime, where the visitors survived the intense moments and eventually advanced.
The German team concluded Group A with a 3-3 record, which was enough for second place and a spot in the Play-in. On the other hand, Legia had two wins and four losses, finishing in fourth place and being eliminated from the BCL due to this defeat.
