Joventut achieved victory in the second round of Group K in the Round of 16 of the Basketball Champions League, as they defeated Unicaja in Badalona 71-66.
Ricky Rubio was the most efficient player with 14 points, while Ante Tomic also scored in double figures with 13 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Cameron Hunt added 11.
On the other side, 11 players scored for Unicaja, with the best being Chris Duarte with 12 points and Kendrick Perry with 11.
The Spanish derby was decided after great drama in Badalona. Joventut had a double-digit lead in the second quarter (34-23), but Unicaja made a comeback and brought the game to an uncertain finish. After Perry’s three-pointer, Unicaja came within one point (67-66), but Ante Tomic made two free throws, and then Hunt sealed the victory with points with 38 seconds remaining.
Joventut is now at 2-0, and in the third round will visit Wurzburg, while Unicaja has a 1-1 record and will host Chalon in Malaga in the third round.
