The Derbi Canario rivals, La Laguna Tenerife and Dreamland Gran Canaria, made major roster announcements on Saturday.
Currently competing in Group L of the Basketball Champions League Season X, powered by Ameresco SUNEL, Round of 16, they are currently tied at the top of their group with identical 3-1 records.
Tenerife has officially signed 29-year-old shooting guard Kenny Williams. A former NCAA champion with North Carolina in 2017, Williams brings a wealth of elite European experience to the islands. After starting his professional journey in the G League and Israel, the American guard became a staple of the Greek top flight between 2021 and 2025. With 48 career Champions League appearances under his belt, including a 2024 Final Four run with Peristeri, he provides his new side with a proven scoring threat who has been a free agent since the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

Meanwhile, Gran Canaria secured the long-term future of Miquel Salvo by extending his contract through the end of the 2027-28 season. The 31-year-old forward is a synonymous figure with BCL success, having secured back-to-back titles with Hereda San Pablo Burgos in 2020 and 2021. This extension serves as a massive gesture of confidence from the club, coming just weeks after Salvo suffered a season-ending ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee.

The timing of these announcements is critical as the Champions League enters its most intense phase. Both Canary Island teams are currently two games ahead of ERA Nymburk and Trieste in Group L. With only two fixtures remaining in the Round of 16, the neighbors are locked in a battle for the top seed, which guarantees crucial homecourt advantage during the quarterfinal stage.
