Fitness First Würzburg Baskets has secured a major long-term commitment from head coach Saso Filipovski, who has officially extended his contract for three additional years. The extension keeps the Slovenian tactician at the helm of the German club until 2029. The announcement was met with enthusiastic cheers from over 3,000 fans at the tectake ARENA on Friday evening, shortly before the tip-off of their easyCredit BBL home game against Niners Chemnitz.

Since taking over head-coaching responsibilities in December 2021, 51-year-old Filipovski has become the longest-serving coach in the club’s history, reaching a milestone of 190 competitive games and over 100 victories. “It is a pleasure and an honor to remain a Wurzburg resident. I feel very much at home in this beautiful city with its wonderful people. Therefore, it was an easy decision for me to continue my work here,” Filipovski stated. He further emphasized the organizational harmony, noting, “the chemistry between us is fantastic. I truly appreciate these things. That’s why my wife and I decided that we want to continue living and working in this wonderful city.”

Under his leadership, Wurzburg currently holds a 14-8 record in the 2025-26 BBL Regular Season. On the continental stage, the team is competing in Basketball Champions League Season X, powered by Ameresco SUNEL, sitting at 1-3 in Round of 16 Group K, with two crucial games remaining to fight for a spot in the Quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, in Group I of the BCL, Rytas announced the mutual termination of Jacob Wiley’s contract on Friday. The 31-year-old forward, who averaged 7.3 points and 5.8 rebounds across nine Champions League appearances this season, departs as the Lithuanian side sits at 2-2 in their quest for a quarterfinal berth.
