ALBA Berlin achieved a victory in the fifth round match of the Round of 16 in the Basketball Champions League, defeating AS Karditsa 76-71 away from home.
All 11 players who played for the Germans scored, with Sam Griesel and J’Wan Roberts each contributing 10 points. For the hosts, Damien Jefferson scored 14 points, one more than Brandon Jefferson.
It seemed that AS Karditsa might achieve their first win in this phase of the competition. The Greeks had the lead before the final quarter (58-54), but the Germans made a comeback, executed free throws well in the closing stages, and thus clinched the victory.
In group J, it was clear even before this round who would advance to the Quarterfinals, but the question of who would take first and who second place was postponed to the final round. ALBA, now holding a 4-1 record, will host AEK in a direct match for the top of the table. On the other hand, AS Karditsa is winless and will visit Tofas in the final round.
