KJ Simpson Jr. of Galatasaray MCT Technic has been named the Basketball Champions League Player of the Week.
The 24-year-old point guard secured the honor following a 24-hour fan vote. He became the third weekly winner of the 2026–27 season, powered by Ameresco SUNEL, as confirmed on Friday.
The Los Angeles native edged out fellow nominees Enoch Cheeks, Zoltan Perl, James Woodard, and Emir Sulejmanovic after the league announced the Team of the Week selections on Thursday.
Shortly after joining the Lions, Simpson made a resounding Champions League debut. Coming off the bench to spark the lineup, he delivered 17 points, eight rebounds, and three assists in 26 minutes of action. His efficient scoring display featured 5-for-10 shooting from the field, including three of four attempts from beyond the arc.
His performance propelled Galata to their first victory of this European run. The win also marked a successful debut for head coach Manuchar Markoishvili.
With the result, the Istanbul outfit is now locked in a four-way tie at 1–1 alongside SIG Strasbourg, Cibona, and Legia Warszawa in Group B. They will resume their Champions League journey on November 4 when they travel to Arena COS Torwar to face Legia. Domestically, they currently hold a 1–3 record in the 2026–27 Turkiye Sigorta Basketbol Super Ligi Regular Season.
Before moving abroad for the first time in his career, Simpson appeared in 56 NBA games split between the Charlotte Hornets and Denver Nuggets in the 2024–25 and 2025–26 campaigns.
