Ricky Rubio is one of the greatest legends of “La Penya,” but he has now taken his connection with the club—known for its green-and-black colors—to the next level. The team’s current point guard will expand his relationship with Joventut de Badalona by becoming a shareholder in the organization. The Catalan point guard, who developed through the club’s youth ranks and became one of its most iconic players, will now also have an ownership stake in “La Penya” during a period of organizational change.
This was announced by Scranton Enterprises in an official statement, released shortly after the change in ownership of the historic club was finalized: “Ricky Rubio, who came up through the youth system of Club Joventut Badalona and is one of the most iconic players in its history, will join the club’s shareholder base, thereby helping to ensure the continuity of Scranton’s legacy and its commitment to the Badalona-based organization. Scranton will remain connected to the club as a financial partner following the completion of the transaction.”
The transaction is part of an agreement reached by Scranton Enterprises—a key shareholder in Joventut since 2018—to bring in Confluence Valley, the group led by Paulius Motiejunas, as the new majority shareholder. The announcement was made this Friday, October 23, though the change still requires final approval from the Higher Sports Council (CSD).
Rubio’s entry into the club’s ownership structure is a highlight of this new chapter for the Badalona-based team. The player, who took his first steps in professional basketball wearing the club’s iconic green-and-black jersey before embarking on an extensive international career, thus strengthens his ties to the organization where his sporting journey began.
