FIBA Secretary General Patrick Baumann will meet with Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos in Athens in order to explore the prospect of the Greek club participating in the Basketball Champions League next season, according to sources.

Panathinaikos has already been in some initial talks with the Basketball Champions League, as competition CEO Patrick Comninos confirmed. Since Baumann will be in Athens the following days to attend the Basketball Champions League Final Four, the opportunity has been presented for the two sides will have an in-depth discussion regarding the possibility of Panathinaikos joining BCL.

Giannakopoulos has appeared quite determined for Panathinaikos to possibly leave EuroLeague this summer, due to what the club describes as a “definite rift” between the two sides.
