Before playing for the Lakers of the Showtime era, Kurt Rambis started his professional career, by taking advantage of his Greek roots and playing under the name Kyriakos Rambidis for the Greek club AEK back in the1980-81 season.

Despite playing only one season, he remains a big part of the club’s lore and he was invited by his old team in the Basketball Champions League Final Four, which is hosted in Athens by AEK.

Before the start of the game, AEK’s owner Makis Aggelopoulos presented Rambis with a jersey of the team.
