VEF Riga acquired Xavier Thames for a tryout, the Latvian team announced on Friday. The Basketball Champions League club also informed that Deshon Taylor will not join the team, but NBL’s Sydney Kings instead.

Thames, 28, was the 59th pick of the 2014 NBA draft. The former Washington State and San Diego State NCAA player has since competed in various European countries, but will make his way to Latvia for the first time.

Last season with Egis Kormend he posted 12.9 points, 4.1 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 steals per appearance in the Hungarian League. He helped his side win the regular season and make it to the finals of the playoffs.

VEF Riga is 1-2 in Group C of the BCL, 6-0 in the Latvia-Estonian League.
