For the first time in 16 years and the fifth time in their history, Brazil won the continental championship of America, prevailing 55-47 over Argentina in Managua, Nicaragua.
Point guard Yago Santos capped a brilliant individual tournament, leading Brazil with 14 points and 5 assists, as the team of Croatian head coach Aleksandar Petrovic won the event for the first time since 2009.
Alongside their five championship trophies, the Verdeamarela also boasts three silver medals and four bronze.
In the bronze medal game, the US defeated Canada 90-85, winning for the second straight tournament the third place.
For the second tournament in a row, the Americans kept their northern neighbors off the podium. In Brazil in 2022, they also overcame Canada in the Third Place Game. It marks the team’s third straight medal finish after winning the title in 2017.
Javonte Smart and Tyler Cavanaugh paced the Americans with 21 points each. Both grabbed three rebounds, while Smart also dished out four assists.
