Garbajosa during his visit to Valencia for the opening of the “L’Alqueria” training facilities repeated that the federation will call the EuroLeague players for the November national team games.
“Of course, I will summon the players who participate in the Euroleague”, stated Garbajosa. “But it is not a demonstration of force but it is the normal thing. The Euroleague says no for that week and we are protected by the law. The Spanish Sports Law clearly states that a player has the obligation to answer the call of the national team”.
However, Jose Ramon Lete, head of the Spanish superior sports council has a different opinion on the matter, looking at the bigger picture. According to “Cadena Ser” radio station Lete things that the big issue remains the absence of the NBA players: “The windows are proving that they are not a good strategy for Spanish basketball. It has been decided that things should be done like in football, but there’s a difference. In football, UEFA has both the national teams and clubs and here there’s Euroleague and FIBA. We should not focus the problem on the Euroleague, the problem is that during the national team windows for Europe, 80% of the Spanish national team will not be able to come to play because they are NBA players .”
