FIBA Secretary General and International Olympic Committee (IOC) Member Patrick Baumann on Wednesday headed a delegation of basketball’s world governing body that met with UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin at the Union of European Football Associations’ headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

The meeting – held as a result of an invitation to meet at UEFA extended by Mr. Čeferin to Mr. Baumann during the Final of FIBA EuroBasket 2017 in Turkey – served to address a wide range of topics and highlight the importance of sport’s social value in today’s society. It provided a platform for the two organizations to exchange ideas on how to develop and grow the sport in Europe.

The current challenges that sport faces in Europe these days were discussed, in particular, the importance of finding the right balance between club and national team competitions to serve the best interests of the sport.

Matej Erjavec and Radoslav Nesterovic, respectively the President and Secretary General of the Basketball Federation of Slovenia, attended the meeting. It presented Mr Čeferin, their fellow countryman, an opportunity to once again congratulate the pair on Slovenia being crowned European champions at FIBA EuroBasket 2017.
