Former NBA guard Patrick Beverley has been cleared of felony assault charges by a grand jury in Fort Bend County, Texas, bringing an end to a legal case that began with his arrest on Nov. 14.

In a statement released Monday by his attorneys, Rusty Hardin and Letitia Quinones-Hollins, it was confirmed that the grand jury “no-billed” Beverley, meaning it declined to indict him after reviewing all the evidence. The decision effectively closes the case.

Beverley had faced a third-degree felony assault charge over allegations that he assaulted his 15-year-old sister at their mother’s home in Rosharon, a suburb of Houston. According to a probable cause affidavit previously obtained by USA TODAY Sports, deputies were dispatched to the residence in the early morning hours after Beverley’s mother, Lisa, called him to confront his sister and her 18-year-old boyfriend.

The affidavit stated that the sister had allegedly snuck out to meet her boyfriend before returning home.

In the statement, Beverley said he would “never do anything to harm” his sister and expressed gratitude that the grand jury recognized that with its decision. He also thanked those who supported him during the process and voiced hope that his name and reputation would now be restored.

The 36-year-old veteran is currently playing in Greece for PAOK BC.
