In one of the best games so far in the FIBA World Cup, Germany managed to get a big win over Australia in a thriller finish. Carried by Schroder’s 30 points, Germany got its second win in the group in Okinawa 85-82.

With two wins in group E, Germany qualified for the next round of the competition.

Dennis Schroder played on an elite level. Scoring 30 points and dished out eight assists. Maodo Lo followed with 20 points making Franz Wagner’s apcents not felts at all.

Schroder deservingly earned the Player of the Game nod as he became just the second German player to score 30+ points in a FIBA World Cup game, after Dirk Nowitzki (3 games), who was, coincidentally, in attendance together with Jorge Garbajosa. It was the first 30+ point game for the point guard.

Big thanks to Schroder, Germany has won their last 5 games at the FIBA World Cup, their joint-best winning run in the competition as they also won 5 in 1994.

Germany started strong with an 8-0 Run, but FIBA Patty came to play. He scored the team’s first 13 points to will his side back from a slow 0-8 start, and the last field goal of that series was an amazing very long three from near the logo to end the fast break.

From that point on, it was a back-and-forth battle with Germany having as much as an 11-point lead early in the game, but Australia came back late in the third quarter (65-59).

It all came down to the last minute when the score was tied 81-81. Germany put the ball in Schroder’s hands who delivered once against. Scoring easily (83-81), Josh Giddey then hit two free throws, but it was not enough to get the win.

Maodo Lo sealed the deal for Germany with a layup in the last seconds.

Patty Mills scored 21 points, Josh Giddey added 17 for Australia.
