The European Qualifiers for the FIBA World Cup 2027 in Qatar gave us a very special moment in France. Andrew Albicy, 35, played his last game in France as a national player in the win against Belgium.
Gran Canaria’s guard is one of the leaders in Frederic Fauthoux’s roster for the first two games of Qualifying. After 109 matches as a professional, Albicy will leave the French national team after this qualifying phase ends.
He only had 5 points and 6 assists against Belgium, but the French national team secured the win and is now 1-0 in Group G. Fauthoux’s squad will travel to Finland to try and secure their second victory.

Albicy was part of the 2024 Olympic Team in Paris, the 2022 FIBA Eurobasket squad, and the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. He was also in the 2019 World Cup Squad, the 2011 Eurobasket and in the 2010 World Cup.
A legend who steps aside, and the French public of the Kindarena in Rouen wanted to pay tribute to him as he deserves. Once the match was over, he received a standing ovation.
