Without NBA superstar Luka Doncic, but led by veterans Klemen Prepelic and Alen Omic, Slovenia is preparing for the upcoming FIBA window and the next challenges in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Qualifiers. Advancing to the final stage is a necessary step toward qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, which has been formally confirmed as a primary career goal for Doncic.
Following a 1-1 start in Group H, action resumes with a home-and-away series against Czechia. The games will take place at Koper’s Arena Bonifika on February 27 and Jihlava’s Horacka Arena on March 1.
On Monday, the Basketball Federation of Slovenia, KZS, released the official call-ups made by head coach Aleksander Sekulic.

Slovenia enters this window tied with Estonia at 1-1, trailing Czechia’s 2-0 and leading Sweden’s 0-2. The top three teams after the six-game First Round schedule will advance to the Second Round. Results will carry over into a new six-team group, where the top three finishers will clinch a berth for the 2027 World Cup in Qatar.
“We are looking forward to the two games with Czechia with great optimism,” said 47-year-old Sekulic. “We feel a strong responsibility to present ourselves to our fans in the image they deserve. We must step onto the court with the team spirit that defines us. With that approach, this team can beat anyone. We are including young faces to continue the process of rejuvenating the squad. The tight schedule is a challenge. Playing the same opponent twice in three days feels like a playoff series. Rapid adaptation and the excellent logistics provided by the KZS for the trip to Jihlava will be crucial for player regeneration.”
