Kasparas Jakucionis has officially committed to representing his country on the senior international stage, providing a massive boost to the national team’s upcoming challenges in the FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
Confirming his decision in an interview shared by the Lithuanian Basketball Federation on Wednesday, the 19-year-old combo guard of the Miami Heat enthusiastically stated, “Yes. I will be in the first window. I will give all my strength to the national team and my country. I have already talked about this with Heat officials.”
This marks a pivotal moment in his career as he prepares to make his senior debut for Lithuania. His call-up is part of a broader recruitment wave from the NBA for the upcoming FIBA window in July. The preliminary 30-player roster features a strong North American presence, highlighted by the inclusion of Chicago Bulls forward Matas Buzelis and Denver Nuggets center Jonas Valanciunas. Buzelis’ participation is particularly historic, as it would be his very first appearance with the national team at any level, spanning both junior and senior ranks. However, the squad will have to navigate this critical summer window without one of its biggest stars, as Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis was notably omitted from the candidate list.
The stakes for the first summer window are high, as the Baltic giants currently sit at a balanced 2–2 record in Group D of the European Qualifiers. The team faces a critical stretch ahead, hosting Great Britain before hitting the road to visit Italy. If they can manage to secure one of the top three seeds in the group, they will advance to Group J for the next stage of the tournament. Crucially, they will carry their win-loss record with them into that next phase, keeping their hopes alive as they attempt to extend their bid for a World Cup ticket.
