As expected, Luka Doncic will not play for Slovenia during the late-August window of the 2027 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.
The Lakers star had already announced that he would skip this year’s qualifying windows for family reasons.
“The main reason is my daughters. The most important thing for me is being at home with my daughters. Right now, that’s what matters most,” Doncic said in June.
His Lakers teammate Jaxson Hayes is also absent from Aleksandar Sekulic’s preliminary squad, meaning his potential Slovenia debut will have to wait.
Among the 19 selected players is Baskonia supertalent Stefan Joksimovic. The 17-year-old guard recently led Slovenia to its first U18 EuroBasket title and was named tournament MVP after averaging 23.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists. He added 24 points in the final against Italy.
Slovenia will play preparation games against Latvia and Montenegro before visiting France in Paris and hosting Hungary in Ljubljana in the World Cup Qualifiers.
Slovenia’s 19-man preliminary roster features Lukas Bojovic, Miha Cerkvenik, Vlatko Cancar, Lovro Faganel, Gregor Glas, Vit Hrabar, Gregor Hrovat, Stefan Joksimovic, Martin Krampelj, Urban Kroflic, Aljaz Kunc, Tibor Mirtic, Aleksej Nikolic, Alen Omic, Klemen Prepelic, Rok Radovic, Ziga Samar, Leon Stergar and Luka Scuka.
