Brazil has ambitions in this World Cup and proved them by beating the European champions. Yes, France doesn’t have Tony Parker, but still the 65-63 win was a great debut in the tournament for the Americans. Marcelo Huertas with 16 points and 5 assists was crucial for the winners, while French captain Boris Diaw with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists did the best he could. Antoine Diot cut the lead of Brazil to one with a three pointer but with just 2 seconds to go nothing could change.

Earlier, as it was expected, Serbia started the FIBA World Cup with an easy win. The team of coach Djordjevic didn’t faced any problems against Egypt on the way to a 85-64 triumph. Milos Teodosic with 15 points and Miroslav Radulica with 13 were the leading scorers of a balanced offense, however Serbia and its potential will be judged against stronger opponents. Still, the focus of the team was impressive.

The task for Spain against Iran was easy and after the first quarter everything was simple (90-60). The hosts of the World Cup dominated having Pau Gasol as leader. The veteran big guy scored 33 points (personal record for him in a World Cup game) and grabbed 8 rebounds! His brother, Mark scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Serg Ibaka was out due to a minor injury.
