Caja Laboral decided to terminate the contract of veteran guard Carlos Cabezas, because the Spanish guard is accused for leaking to the press the fine imposed to the players by coach Zan Tabak after the defeat by Olympiacos

As it was officially announced by Caja Laboral, Carlos Cabezas is no longer a member of the team and he will be replaced by English guard Devon Van Oostrum who can’t be used in Euroleague. According to the team the shocking decision is based in “coaching criteria”.

Well you can say it also this way, however those criteria are a bit strange. According to local sources, the real reason for Cabezas’ exit is that he is being accused for leaking to the press the fine imposed to the players by coach Zan Tabak in the aftermath of their defeat by Olympiacos.

Eurohoops was present in the game and Tabak was furious in the press conference. That can be considered a sign that the reports about a fine of 1.000 euros to each player – to some of them even 2.000 euros – for “bad basketball attitude”, as this one by tubasket.com, are in fact true. If this is in deed the reason behind the cut of Cabezas, then something is wrong in Vitoria.
