As Os Davis in his iconic blog wrote, this is the end of Vladimir Romanov’s tenure as Zalgiris Kaunas’ president. At least that is announced officialy in the website of the team: “Vladimir Romanov has resigned from the Zalgiris Kaunas board member and chairman positions. The assembled Zalgiris Kaunas club board wishes to state that it is considering options for further club activities. The decisions taken on the club’s management and organization will be released shortly. In order to protect the team, its coaches and players from unnecessary speculation on this topic, the board strongly requests patience. The required information will be provided once a final decision is made”.

It’s a well known fact that Ikio Bankas, owned by Romanov who has the 64,9% of its shares, is under state investigation and its operation is suspended by Lithuania’s central bank. Just days before this announcement, Romanov had stated its intention to leave Zalgiris. However, everyone should wait at least until there is a new president, or even a new owner of Zalgiris in order to consider the exit of Romanov a concrete fact.
