Sasha Vezenkov poured 33 points, a new career-high at the senior level as Olympiacos edged Kolossos H Hotels, 80-79, Sunday.

Vezenkov, 27, made the difference by netting the game-winning three-pointer with 5.5 seconds left in Greece’s Basket League Regular Season Round 17 affair. Effective defense on the opposite end in the dying seconds of the back-and-forth game finally lifted the team coached by Giorgos Bartzokas to 16-0 at the domestic level. Olympiacos has remained undefeated in Greece for over 15 months, specifically since November 2021.

With Greece mourning the train crash victims in Tempi earlier this week, the exciting game was a treat for fans packing the gym in Rhodes. The hosts led most of the way and went up by five points midway through the last quarter but could not hold on, instead falling to 8-8.

Vezenkov made 11/15 from the field, highlighted by 7/10 from three-point range, to go with seven rebounds, four assists, and one block in his latest impressive showing. Team captain Kostas Papanikolaou followed with 14 points. For Kolossos, Charis Giannopoulos registered a team-high 17 points.

Heading to the next two-game week of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season, the Reds elected to rest Shaquielle McKissic. Two home games are coming up as FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich visit the Peace and Friendship Stadium Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.

Sitting second in the standings of Greece’s top division, Panathinaikos logged a home win against Karditsa Biologiko Xorio yesterday, Saturday.
