A particularluy strong third-quarter performance by Olympiacos Piraeus proved to be enough against PAOK Thessaloniki. The Reds overpowered their opponents 27 – 8 in the third period en route to a 86 – 60 Greek League win.
While Olympiacos got the victory, they saw guard Luca Vildoza exiting the game in the second half with an apparent hamstring injury. The player had returned to action after being sidelined through the previous week.
After this result, Olympiacos improved to 16-2 while PAOK dropped to 8-10. The two teams might face each other again in the upcoming Greek Cup tournament that begins Wednesday (12/2).
Sasha Vezenkov led Olympiacos with 22 points and eight rebounds. Alec Peters dropped 15 points, Tyler Dorsey scored 14 and Evan Fournier posted 11 points plus six assists.
Shavar Reynolds was the only PAOK player with double figures, scoring 19. His team led 25 – 33 halfway through the second quarter and was up 34 – 36 early in the third period before the hosts’ counterattack.
Olympiacos made a 20-2 run and then closed the quarter up 60 – 43. Giorgos Bartzokas’ players never looked back and cruised to victory.
