The 2025 Greek League Finals between Panathinaikos Athens and Olympiacos Piraeus will resume after the owners of the two clubs met seperately with Deputy Sports Minister Giannis Vroutsis Wednesday (4/6) and reached an agreement that allows the series to conclude.
Game 3 will be played on Friday (6/6) at Panathinaikos, Game 4 will be held at Olympiacos Sunday (8/6) and Game 5 – if needed – will take place either Tuesday (10/6) or Wednesday (11/6) at Panathinaikos . The two archrivals are tied 1-1.
“Discussions were held in good, constructive atmosphere,” Vroutsis said. “Guarantees were given from both sides regarding the safety in the Finals and safeguarding fairplay. The owners of the two clubs guarantee that the games will be held smoothly with their presence in their arenas.”
Both clubs released statements, guaranteeing that the games will be held peacefully.
A few hours before safety discussions with the Greek government, the vice-president of Olympiacos, Giorgos Skindilias, was arrested late Tuesday night, after being sued by the daughter of Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos.
Apart from a countersuit, he also filed an incitement lawsuit against the owner of the Greens prompting a process toward the arrest of Giannakopoulos. The 51-year-old Greek businessman presented himself to a nearby police station and was cleared, before heading to the meeting.
Meanwhile, Panathinaikos players Kostas Sloukas, Ioannis Papapetrou, and Mathias Lessort, coaches Ergin Ataman and Christos Serelis, owner Giannakopoulos, and communication director Dimitris Kontos were all called to present their cases to the sports judge on Thursday, for various actions in Game 2, as described by the referees in the official scoresheet and allegations made by Olympiacos.
Prior to the government decision to suspend the best-of-five series between the Greens and the Reds, the Stoiximan GBL Finals were tied at 1-1.
