Panathinaikos will not participate in this year’s Greek Super Cup, due to the “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” tournament being held in Australia and the Euroleague schedule.

The Greens made a counter-proposal to the Greek League on Wednesday (30/7), proposing a final in December at the Peace and Friendship stadium, home of Olympiacos; however, it was not accepted.

Panathinaikos is expected to get fined, but no other sanctions are expected. It was already known that Panathinaikos would be in Australia for the “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” tournament (18-22 September), and the proposed dates of the Super Cup (26-27/9) make the whole scheduling.

Panathinaikos is scheduled to arrive in Athens after 22 22-hour trip on the 25th of September, and the EuroLeague media day is scheduled for the 26th of September.

According to Panathinaikos management, a new proposal was submitted a week ago that would move the SuperCup final to December.

Olympiacos and the majority of the clubs competing in the Greek League refused a scheduling change. According to the proposal made by Panathinaikos, the revenues from the SuperCup will be bigger, but on the other hand, extra games in December mean also more obligations during the season.
