Olympiacos were more than dominant at the “Andreas Papandreou” arena.
And the result was a blowout win against Peristeri with a final score of 105-62, venting their frustration after the defeat to Barcelona and now turning their focus to the upcoming “double-week” in the EuroLeague.
Giorgos Bartzokas’ team faced difficulties only in the first quarter, but then imposed their rhythm to improve to a perfect 10-0 record to remain unbeaten in the Stoiximan GBL, while the hosts drop to 5-4 after the final game of the 10th round.
Giannoulis Larentzakis was left out of the 12-man squad, while injured Tyson Ward was absent. Monte Morris, who is already in Greece since Sunday morning is not yet available, while Shaquille McKissic is dealing with an injury (rectus abdominis tendinitis) and is registered only on the EuroLeague roster.
From Peristeri’s side, injured Vlado Janković was also out (finger dislocation).
Sasha Vezenkov was the best player of the game with 23 points and 12 rebounds. But it was all about Thomas Walkup, who with his 16 assists became the holder of the new all-time record at Olympiacos, surpassing Sloukas’ 15 assists in the Greek League and Spanoulis’ 15 assists in the EuroLeague.
Ty Nichols led Peristeri with 13 points.
After dominating the firs half (50-35), the team from Piraeus wanted to seal the deal as soon as possible and a 32-9 third quarter was more than enough to win the game way before the buzzer.
Olympiacos now turn their attention to the EuroLeague “double-week,” where they will host Valencia at the Peace and Friendship Stadium on Tuesday (16/12, 21:15), followed by ASVEL Villeurbanne on Friday (19/12, 21:15), for Rounds 16 and 17 respectively.
In the 11th round of the Stoiximan GBL, Olympiacos will host Kolossos Rhodes at the SEF on Sunday (21/12, 13:00), while Peristeri will face Aris at the Alexandrio on Saturday (20/12, 18:15). Before that, Peristeri will host Dinamo Sassari on Wednesday (17/12, 20:00) for the 2nd round of Group N in the Round of 16 of the FIBA Europe Cup.
Yesterday, Panathinaikos also had no problem winning their game, dominating AEK Athens for a very comfortable win.
