Eight Panathinaikos players have tested positive for influenza A, putting tomorrow’s scheduled Stoiximan GBL game against Marousi in jeopardy.
Three staff members are also affected, and some of those infected are experiencing severe symptoms such as fever and congestion.
The virus is believed to have spread during the team’s flight from Kaunas to Athens, where all members were in close quarters. New cases may still emerge, as some infections have not yet developed symptoms.
Given the circumstances, it appears unlikely that the players will recover in time for the game (Saturday, December 27, 20:30), part of the 12th round of the Stoiximan GBL.
Panathinaikos now looks ahead to a European derby against Olympiacos on Friday, January 2, which will close out the first half of the regular season.
