Fournier’s clash with a courtside fan leads to suspension and fines, ruling him out of the OAKA derby

Evan Fournier has been handed a one-game suspension by the Greek League (ESAKE) disciplinary judge following his ejection in the March 15 game against Panionios. Fines were also imposed on Olympiacos head coach Georgios Bartzokas and the club.

The French star was ejected during the road game (Round 21 of the Stoiximan GBL) after a verbal altercation with a courtside fan in Glyfada, and for making a threatening move toward the stands. The fan involved, who was also removed from the arena, received a one-month ban from attending games.

Fournier’s punishment includes a one-game ban and a €1,800 fine. The suspension will be served in Olympiacos’ next league fixture—the “eternal derby” against Panathinaikos at OAKA on March 30—since the Reds have a bye in Round 22.

From a standings perspective, the upcoming derby carries limited weight. Unbeaten league leaders Olympiacos (20–4) have effectively secured home-court advantage throughout the playoffs, holding a four-win cushion over second-placed Panathinaikos (16–4).

Additional sanctions were issued to head coach Georgios Bartzokas, who received a formal reprimand and a €5,000 fine for conduct detrimental to the sport.

Olympiacos were also fined €15,000 in total. Panionios were fined a total of €7,400.
